Postdoctoral Researcher
Laurenne Schiller is a Liber Ero Postdoctoral Fellow whose research combines theory and methods from marine ecology, fisheries science, environmental politics, and natural resource governance. Through her work, Laurenne aims to shed light on incentives and pathways for systemic-level improvements to fisheries management challenges in light of uncertain marine ecological conditions, as well as socio-political and economic pressures. Collaborating jointly with Graeme Auld at the School of Public Policy and Administration and Steven Cooke in the Department of Biology, Laurenne’s postdoctoral research isanalyzing past fisheries management successes and failures in Canada to provide science-based advice on how to enable more positive outcomes in the future. Laurenne is taking a specific focus on the contributions of environmental non-governmental organizations, fishery co-operatives, seafood businesses, and Indigenous rightsholders in an attempt to uncover the types of stakeholder engagement and relationships that support strong fisheries governance in Canada.
