COOKE LAB STUDENT PRESENTS ON KNOWLEDGE MOBILIZATION IN COLORADO

Cooke lab PhD student Vivian Nguyen travelled to Estes Park, Colorado from Oct. 5-9 to attend the Pathways 2014 conference, “Common Future: Integrating human dimensions into fisheries and wildlife management”. Vivian presented her research on the movement of scientific knowledge into Pacific salmon fisheries management. Her presentation generated a lot of discussion on whether it is the scientist’s responsibility to ensure that the public is aware and educated on the scientific outcomes (as many scientific work is funded by public money, particularly in Canada with NSERC).

Thank you to the Ocean Tracking Network for funding Vivian’s travels to an important conference that addresses the human side of natural resource management and conservation.
