Applications are being accepted for Ph.D. students and Post Doctoral Fellows to work with Dr. Michael Power (U Waterloo), Dr. Steven Cooke (Carleton U) and other academic (including hydraulic engineers) and industrial partners (e.g., BC Hydro).  The research would focus on understanding the spatial ecology of wild fish relative to hydropower infrastructure and operations in the Peace River Basin of British Columbia.  There is extensive field work associated with the positions, so willingness to travel to remote areas and a valid driver’s licence are required.  A working knowledge of telemetry and demonstrated aptitude for quantitative analyses and ecological modeling are desirable.  Previous experience with fish ecology is desirable, but not necessary. The successful candidates will possess an MSc, be able to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team environment, be dependable, be able to collate and analyse large data sets, be organized and able to take projects from conceptual idea to completion stage.  Applicants should be prepared to share their enthusiasm for research and associated skills openly within and among the research groups, and by doing so, contribute to a dynamic research environment. While they will be based in the respective laboratories at the University of Waterloo and Carleton University, students should be prepared to travel temporarily between laboratories and to forge a strong collaborative linkage with the other laboratory.  Applicants should submit an application package consisting of a cover letter detailing research experience and interests, a complete CV, a summary of their grades, and contact information for three references.
